چکیده
Nonlinear optical properties of aqueous dispersions single-wall carbon nanohorns (SWCNH) are investigated by a simple and original technique, relating nonlinear transmittance measurements with semi-empirical model fitting allowing to identify the dominant mechanism. The nanofluids shown particularly strong limiting under irradiation nanosecond laser pulses at 355, 532 1064 nm, much stronger than that previously reported in SWCNHs smaller aggregate size. effect is more relevant 355 where nearly ideal behavior output energy practically independent on input one obtained, it attributed massive production bubbles light irradiation. This result opens interesting perspectives for use SWNCH-based suspensions smart materials applications green energy.

Optical Limiting in Single-walled Carbon Nanotube Suspensions
Optical limiting behaviour of suspensions of single-walled carbon nanotubes in water, ethanol and ethylene glycol is reported. Experiments with 532 nm, 15 nsec duration laser pulses show that optical limiting occurs mainly due to nonlinear scattering. The observed host liquid dependence of optical limiting in different suspensions suggests that the scattering originates from microbubbles formed...
متن کاملViscosity dependence of optical limiting in carbon black suspensions.
We measure the optical limiting behavior of carbon black suspensions in various viscosity solvents by using a 10-Hz repetition rate, 532-nm, 5-ns pulsed laser. We found that, for common solvents used in the past such as water and ethanol, the limiting behavior ceases after a few laser firings and a turnover in the limiting curve appears. This can be explained by depletion of the carbon black wi...
متن کاملPotential of carbon nanohorn-based suspensions for solar thermal collectors
The optical characterization is reported of a new fluid consisting of single wall carbon nanohorns and ethylene glycol for solar energy applications. Carbon nanohorns play a significant role in enhancing sunlight absorption with respect to the pure base fluid. The obtained results are compared with those obtained for fluids suspending more conventional carbon forms, i.e. carbon-black particles....
متن کاملSize-dependent optical limiting behavior of multi-walled carbon nanotubes
The size-fractionation of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) in the dimethylformamide (DMF) solution of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) has been achieved by controlled sonication–centrifugation cycles. The Z-scan experiments and fluence-dependent transmission measurements with nanosecond laser pulses of 532 nm wavelength show that the optical limiting behavior of MWNTs in PVDF/DMF solution is...
متن کاملElectronic Structure and Optical Limiting Behavior of Carbon Nanotubes
Carbon nanotubes prepared by catalytic (CO) disproportionation were studied using TEM, XRD, UPS, XPS, and optical spectroscopies. In comparison with graphite, the carbon nanotubes show greater interplanar distance, smaller work function, steeper Fermi edge, negative core-level shift, and stronger plasma excitation. Their valence band is basically the same as that of graphite, with lower intensi...
